Privacy Policy

This policy explains what the Audio Transcriber Chrome extension and this website process. Audio Transcriber is operated by Uladzislau Karzo (“we”). Contact: [email protected].

What stays on your computer

  • Your library: transcripts, notes, answers, translations and the recorded or added sound, in the extension’s storage in your browser (IndexedDB).
  • Your settings (theme, languages, whether to keep the sound).
  • Audio and video files you add are read on your computer. They are not uploaded whole.

Deleting a recording in the Library, “Delete all recordings” in Settings, or uninstalling the extension removes this data.

What is sent, and why

  • Speech audio, to make the transcript. Only after you press Start or add a file. The sound is compressed (Opus), cut into parts of up to 30 seconds and sent to our server, which passes each part to DeepInfra for speech recognition (Whisper) and returns the text. Parts with no sound are not sent.
  • Text, for AI features. When you ask for notes, an answer or a translation: the transcript text and the recording’s title (the tab’s page title or the file name). For a question, also the question and up to four previous questions and answers about the same recording. Our server passes them to Google’s Gemini API and returns the answer.
  • An anonymous account. On first use the extension creates an anonymous account with our backend so that free minutes can be counted. It has an ID and no name or email. We store, per account: the plan, the minutes used each month, an identifier of each charged audio part (so a retried part is not charged twice) with its length and time, and the number of AI requests per day.
  • Payments. If you buy Pro, payment is handled by Stripe. We receive and keep the Stripe customer and subscription identifiers and the paid period; we never see your card.
  • Messages you send us through the contact or uninstall forms: your message, your email if you give it, and the language of your browser.
  • Technical logs. Our hosting providers (Supabase for the server, Cloudflare for this website) record IP addresses in their logs for a limited time.

Our server runs on Supabase Edge Functions in the London region (eu-west-2). It keeps no audio and no transcript text after it answers, and we do not use them to train models.

Service providers

  • Supabase: our database, server functions and the anonymous sign-in.
  • DeepInfra: speech recognition (Whisper), which turns the audio parts into text.
  • Google (Gemini API): notes, answers and translation.
  • Stripe: payments for Pro.
  • Cloudflare: hosting of this website.

DeepInfra and Google process what they receive to return the result, under their terms for API customers. The others process data to provide their service to us, under their own terms.

Microphone and tab sound

The extension uses the microphone only after you choose Microphone and press Start, and only after Chrome asked you for permission. It captures a tab’s sound only for the tab where you clicked its icon, and only after you press Start. A red light and a running counter show while it records. You can pause or stop at any time.

What we do not do

  • No reading of the websites you visit: the extension has no content scripts and no access to page content.
  • No advertising, no selling or sharing of data with advertisers or data brokers.
  • No analytics or tracking scripts in the extension.

Retention

  • Minutes used, the identifiers of charged audio parts and the daily counts of AI requests: 13 months.
  • Messages sent through the contact and uninstall forms: two years.
  • An anonymous account with no activity for 13 months and no paid plan is deleted.
  • Payment records: as long as the law requires.

To have your account data deleted sooner, copy the account ID shown in the extension’s Settings and send it to us through the contact page.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of the personal data we hold, and object to its processing, by writing to [email protected]; include the account ID from the extension’s Settings. The data in your browser is under your control and can be deleted from the extension.

Children

Audio Transcriber is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

We update this page when what we process changes, and change the date at the top.
